CODING & REIMBURSEMENT considerations for UNITE® Biomatrix

To help healthcare providers consider the range of coding possibilities for surgical procedures that might include Unite® Biomatrix, the following information is shared for educational and strategic planning purposes only. At Synovis Orthopedic and Woundcare, we respect that the actual selection of codes is the sole responsibility of the provider and dependent upon the details dictated by the surgeon about the patient’s surgical procedure.

Indication for Use: Unite® Biomatrix is an animal-derived extracellular matrix (xenograft) intended for the management of moderately to severely exudating wounds, including partial and full thickness wounds; draining wounds; pressure sores/ulcers; venous ulcers; chronic vascular ulcers; diabetic ulcers; trauma wounds (e.g. abrasions, lacerations, partial thickness [second-degree] burns, skin tears); surgical wounds (e.g. donor sites/grafts, post-laser surgery, post-Mohs surgery, podiatric wounds, dehisced surgical incisions). Effective January 1, 2012, the HCPCS Level II standard, national code set will include Q4129 for Unite® Biomatrix, per square centimeter.
