Company History

Pegasus Biologics (Pegasus), located in Irvine, CA was founded in 2005 to pursue proprietary processes for the flexible crosslinking and sterilization of xenograft tissue for soft tissue repair. Using these patent-protected processes on equine pericardium, the company launched OrthADAPT® Bioimplant for tendon repair augmentation in 2005. This was followed by the FDA approval and introduction of Unite® Biomatrix for chronic wound healing in 2006. Selling in the United States and abroad, Pegasus became a recognized technology leader in these market segments. Through mid-2009, the company supported the implantation/application of over 10,000 of the extracellular matrix xenografts. The success by Pegasus in establishing the clinical importance of this proprietary product platform led to the acquisition of the technology by Synovis Life Technologies, Inc. (Synovis) in 2009. This flexibly crosslinked product platform was launched in late 2009 as the company’s newest operating division, Synovis Orthopedic and Woundcare, Inc.

Synovis is a publicly traded company (SYNO) headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota with over 25 years of biologic device experience.
